Two Major winners, two top-10 players and two of the best-dressed golfers in the world battled it out in the urban jungle as part of the Nike Golf Club LDN event.
Rory McIlroy and Jason Day spent the day in London, to promote Nike's Aeroreact polo shirts which the pair wore at Royal Birkdale during The Open.
Day, who caught the attention with his hi-tops and modern take on the Nike look in Southport, took time out for an exclusive chat with TRENDYGOLF, which will appear in The Guide AW17, to discuss his fashion preference and how he believes the sport is evolving to embrace the modern, sports look and is moving away from the traditions of conservative dress.
He said: “I wear a lot of hi-tops, typically with tighter jeans and joggers. It’s getting closer to what I wear away from the course and I love that.”
"Nike is taking things in a new direction and I love it. It’s taken it in a gym direction and this is becoming a lifestyle look. I want to walk down the street and look like it belongs, rather than looking like some dorky golf guy."
McIlroy added: “The game is changing. Youngsters see what we are wearing on the course these days and they want to wear the same thing. It will make golf clubs change the rules.
“In some ways, I am a traditionalist and I respect the heritage of the game. But golf will be around a lot longer than me or anyone else here and it’s important to look to the future of the game.”
The duo also displayed their impressive abilities, firing shots into the River Thames against the famous skyline before they took a London black cab to take part in a target challenge in North Greenwich, scoring points for their teams with Day’s team edging to victory in the contest.
